How we read the sky, honestly
Most astrology asks you to trust it. We would rather show you how it is made. Here is exactly what happens between the real sky and the reflection you read, with nothing hidden.
The maths are real
Vela’s chart engine takes planetary positions from a well-tested open astronomy library, the same kind of ephemeris data professional astrologers rely on, and adds its own classical layer for the Ascendant and Midheaven, the house systems, the aspects and the essential dignities. Your chart is accurate to the arcminute. The sky is not the symbolic part; it is measured.
The readings are composed, not scraped
A deterministic engine reads your actual chart, the real placements, their conditions and the angles between them, and assembles an original reflection from principles drawn from the public-domain canon: Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos, William Lilly, the Golden Dawn’s decan system, Waite’s Pictorial Key for the tarot. The great modern interpreters inform the craft, but their copyrighted text is never reproduced or stored. What you read exists nowhere else.
A machine writes it, and that is the honest part
We know how that can sound, so here is the plain version. There is no black box guessing what you want to hear. The engine is deterministic: the same sky produces the same reading, every time, for everyone. It reasons from fixed classical rules you could check, not from a mood. And it is built, at the root, so that it cannot fortune-tell. A system that refuses to predict is a more honest narrator than a confident voice that will tell you anything to keep you reading.
Every reading is checked before it reaches you
Each reading passes an integrity check on its way out. It has to be reflective rather than predictive, it has to end in a question rather than a verdict, and it must never stray into the subjects we refuse outright: health, mortality, fertility, or definitive medical, legal or financial direction. If a reading cannot pass, it does not ship. That is the same promise the whole product is built on, enforced in code.
What this means for you
Your chart is computed honestly, your reading is original and reproducible, and nothing about the method needs to hide behind mystique. We do not need your microphone, your contacts, or your secrets to do any of this. You get an honest instrument, and the reflection stays yours. What would it change to read your chart knowing exactly how it was made?
Frequently asked
Is my reading written by a person or by a machine?
By a machine, but a transparent one. A deterministic engine reads your real chart and assembles the reflection from fixed classical principles. There is no black box improvising at you and no fortune-telling: the same sky always produces the same reading, and every reading is checked before you see it. We would rather show you exactly how it is made than ask you to trust a voice.
Where do Vela’s interpretations come from?
From the public-domain classical canon: Ptolemy, William Lilly, the Golden Dawn’s Book T, and A. E. Waite’s Pictorial Key for the tarot. Those sources inform the principles we encode. The modern greats shape the craft, but their copyrighted text is never reproduced, scraped, or stored. The words you read are Vela’s own.
How accurate are the calculations?
Positions come from a well-tested open astronomy library, the same kind of ephemeris data professionals use, and Vela’s own classical layer computes the angles, houses, aspects and dignities on top, accurate to the arcminute. The maths are real even though the meaning is symbolic.
